Support from European Parliament on Urban Mobility Green Paper

After the European Commission published its Green Paper on Urban Mobility last year, it’s now up to the European Parliament to deliver an opinion on it. In this process, MEP Reinhard Rack, rapporteur on the Green Paper in the responsible Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN), plays a key role. Mr Rack issued a draft report "Towards a new culture of urban mobility" which is now under investigation by the EP. On 15 April, COLIBI & COLIPED therefore joined forces with the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF) and the European Twowheel Retailers’ Association (ETRA) to discuss common ideas with Mr Rack. These included, among other, more thorough research, data and statistics on cycling in Europe, as well as the revision of the allocation of European resources with a view to improving and increasing cycling in Europe. Mr Rack, who is likely to receive more than 300 amendments on his draft report said: "You can be sure that you will have fairly strong support from the European Parliament for promoting cycle usage in European transport policy". We are therefore looking forward to the vote in the Parliamentary Committee on 27/28 May and in plenary session in June. The opinion of the European Parliament will have a crucial impact on the Action Plan that the European Commission will draft by next autumn.
